1993 A to Z: T is for…

Okay, here’s the 4-1-1: We are officially torso-deep in the series . . .

1993 A to Z!

. . . because today we’re talking letter “T.” As you’ll recall, each of the things mentioned here gets a shout-out in my awesome new time-travel novel Rewind. (P.S. Read it now! It’s great!)

So don’t be trippin’! Let’s get started . . .

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time” is not only a cool tongue-twister, it is also an awesome video game that makes a fun cameo in Rewind. Not to be confused with the 1993 movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III,” in which our pals Leonardo, Rafael, Michelangelo, and Donatello also go back in time, the 1991 game has the turtles battling Shredder in both the past and future in order to recover the Statue of Liberty (of course). If you’re into classic 90s “beat ‘em ups,” this is for sure a good one. Since YouTube has everything, you can go watch someone play through the arcade game for 40 minutes right this second. Have fun!

Special props to . . .
telephone booths

I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a payphone, let alone a full-on booth. But yes, back in the day when almost nobody had a cell phone (probably because they were the size of a brick and cost $900), if you were away from your house and needed to reach someone, the payphone was your only option. Often the booths would have entire local phone books attached by a cord, so you could look up anyone in town’s address and phone number (a face McKinley finds unfathomable in Rewind). I can’t say I miss the era of telephone booths, exactly, but it was nice to live in a time when a phone call only cost a quarter.

. . . And that’s a wrap on the 1993 “T”s. Any I forgot? Let me know in the comments. Next we’ll be uncovering the letter “U.” In the meantime—if you are on the hunt for something to keep you occupied—may I suggest a little book called Rewind? :)

Happy reading!

Lisa
