1993 A to Z: Z is for . . .

I hate to be a buzzzzzzzz kill, but we’ve made it to the very last installment of . . .

1993 A to Z!

It might be hard to believe, but we are all the way to “Z” already in the 26-part series diving into all things 1993, in honor of my brand new time-travel novel, Rewind. Which is fine because I was so over talking about the 90s (. . . as if!)

Anyways . . .

Zubaz pants

I actually had no idea what these pants were called until I started doing research for Rewind, but I had certainly seen them. In the early 90s Zubaz pants were everywhere. Originally created by two weightlifters as something men in their profession could wear comfortably, the stretchy-at-the-waist, flowy-in-the-middle, tapered-at-the-ankle look somehow became a huge sensation. Many 90s kids will be familiar with them because of celebs like Hulk Hogan and Will Smith—a.k.a. the Fresh Prince of Bel Air—and to see them now is to be instantly taken back in time to an era when no one had any fashion sense at all. The pants were famous for their bright, bold patterns, primarily zebra print, and they went on to become super popular with sports fans as well. In fact, you can still buy a fairly ugly pair of your very own because—surprise (not!)—Zubaz pants have recently made a comeback. Bonus time fun: if you want to see a pair of these bad boys in action (and trust me, you do), please zoom to second 0:36 of this “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” clip. You will not be disappointed!

. . . Aaaaaand we’re outtie! That’s all for “1993 A to Z.” Thanks so much for joining me! And speaking of joining me—friends in the Philly area, don’t forget to come to my book launch party for Rewind tonight! We’ve got Dunkaroos, hella fly tunes, and even Pogs! If any event were ever all that and a bag of chips, it’s definitely this one.

See you on the flipside, homeslice!

Did I forget any good 1993 “U”s? Are you an Urban Cookie Collective superfan? Let me know in the comments! Stay tuned next time for letter “V”—and don’t forget to check out Rewind!

Happy reading!

Lisa
