1993 A to Z: U is for . . .

Hey there! I’m back with some fresh new words and phrases for our 26-part blog series . . .

1993 A to Z!

Okay, technically I’m back with one new word/phrase, because “U” is a tough one. It is, however, something that is featured in my new book, Rewind (have you read it yet??).

Urban Cookie Collective

No, Urban Cookie Collective isn’t a city gang known for hoarding Thin Mints—it’s the name of a 90s Eurodance band. Never heard of them? That’s probably because they never really crossed over to the States, despite some pretty big success on the foreign pop charts. Their biggest hit was definitely “The Key, the Secret,” which was all over the Euro club scene in the 90s. (Wikipedia has informed me that various music reviewers referred to it as both a “mellifluous delight” and a “corking” single.) It’s pretty catchy, which is one of the reasons I used the song as the title of Chapter 29 in Rewind. (Check out the full playlist of songs I used as chapter titles here!) The music video is a masterclass in how not to use a zoom lens.

Did I forget any good 1993 “U”s? Are you an Urban Cookie Collective superfan? Let me know in the comments! Stay tuned next time for letter “V”—and don’t forget to check out Rewind!

Happy reading!

Lisa
